Safety Tips & Best Practices

At Naiya, your security is our priority. Follow these guidelines to ensure every transaction you make is safe, transparent, and successful.

General Safety

Account Security

Use strong, unique passwords for your Naiya account and never share your login credentials with anyone. We will never ask for your password via email or chat.

Privacy Protection

Keep personal documents like BVN, NIN, and detailed bank statements private. Naiya will never ask for your bank PIN or card CVV over the phone or through messaging apps.

On-Platform Communication

Always use the built-in Naiya chat system to communicate with buyers or sellers. This ensures there is a secure record of your negotiation in case a dispute arises.

Buying Safely

Check Seller Reviews

Before making a purchase, visit the seller's storefront and check their reviews. Feedback from other community members is a great indicator of reliability.

Use the Comparison Tool

Utilize our "Compare" feature to see if a price is suspiciously low. If a deal seems too good to be true, it often is. Comparing helps you identify fair market value.

Meet in Public Places

Always arrange to meet sellers in well-lit, busy public locations like shopping malls, petrol stations, or popular cafes. Never meet in secluded or private residences.

NO Upfront Payments

Never pay for an item before you have physically inspected and verified its condition. This includes refusing to pay "commitment fees," "delivery fees," or "security deposits" in advance.

Selling Safely

Verify Payment Directly

When a buyer pays via bank transfer, log into your official mobile banking app to confirm the funds have been credited. NEVER rely on SMS alerts or email notifications, as these can be faked.

Manage Your Reputation

Respond to buyer inquiries and reviews promptly and professionally. A high store rating builds trust and helps you attract more serious buyers.

Secure Shipping

If you choose to ship items, use reputable and trackable logistics partners. Share the tracking information with the buyer so both parties can monitor the delivery progress.

Common Scams to Avoid

The Overpayment Scam

Be cautious of buyers who claim to have "accidentally" sent more than the agreed price and ask for a refund of the difference. Often, the original payment is fraudulent and will be reversed.

High-Pressure Tactics

Scammers often create a false sense of urgency to make you skip safety checks. If someone is pushing you to "pay now or lose the deal," take a step back.

High-Value Items (Cars & Property)

Vehicle Transactions

Meet at a trusted mechanic's workshop for a professional inspection. Always verify the original vehicle documents with the appropriate authorities before any payment.

Real Estate & Housing

Always conduct a physical site visit to the property. Verify ownership documents and ensure the person you are dealing with is the legitimate owner or an authorized agent.

Reporting & Support

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Use the "Report" flag available on every ad and user profile in the Naiya app. Our safety team reviews all reports and takes swift action against fraudulent users.

Collect Evidence

If you encounter a suspicious user, keep screenshots of the chat, the ad listing, and any other relevant interactions. This information is vital for our investigation.
